Zoom Painting Demonstration: Cloudy Estuary
Capturing atmosphere, structure and shifting light in an East Anglian Estuary scene.
Join me live from the studio for this 90-minute Zoom oil painting demonstration, where I’ll paint a moored boat beneath a dramatic spring sky.
This session will focus on interpreting a scene rather than copying it — simplifying shapes, organising tonal values and using confident brushwork to create depth and atmosphere.
During the demonstration, I’ll cover:
Establishing strong tonal structure from the outset
Simplifying complex boat forms without losing character
Painting convincing clouds with variation and movement
Balancing sky, land and structure for compositional strength
Using a limited palette to maintain harmony
You’ll see the painting develop step by step from the first marks through to the final adjustments, with commentary throughout explaining the decisions behind each stage.
There will also be time for questions via the Zoom chat.
This session is about observing the decision-making process behind the painting, rather than following a step-by-step workshop. You can submit questions via chat, which I’ll answer at the end of the demonstration.
