In this one-day workshop you’ll explore how colour and tone work together to create atmosphere in landscape painting. We’ll paint two small panoramic studies:
Morning session: the East Coast in sunlight, focusing on colour relationships, warmth and clarity.
Afternoon session: the West Coast of Cornwall, studied in tonal values, exploring depth, mood and structure.
Through these contrasting subjects, you’ll discover:
How to use colour to convey light and atmosphere.
The role of tone in creating strength and unity in a painting.
Practical methods for simplifying complex scenes into expressive, panoramic studies.
Approaches to working quickly, with impressionistic brushwork that captures the essence of place.
Suitable for painters with some experience who want to strengthen their understanding of colour harmony, tonal balance and mood in landscape.
If you would prefer to use water-mixable oils or acrylics please feel free.
I hope you can join us on this one day workshop. Tea/coffee and biscuits will be available throughout the day but please bring your own packed lunch and materials with you.
