In this oil painting workshop we will focus on light and atmosphere using skies as our subject. Painting skies will offer us an opportunity to discover aerial perspective, how to control colour saturation and creating links between the sky and landscape below.

We will use three primary colours and white to paint two pictures, one of a summer sky and another of a sunset.

The workshop is suitable for those who have some experience in painting and drawing but techniques for using oil will be shown throughout the day. If you prefer to work in acrylic or water mixable oil that is absolutely fine.

I hope you will be able to join me on this workshop where tea/coffee and biscuits are provided but please bring your own packed lunch and materials.

Parking and toilets are available onsite.

Materials

Two painting boards 12in x 16in - preferably MDF or hardboard primed with three coats of Gesso primer (such as Winsor and Newton Gesso primer)

Oil colours - Titanium White, Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Yellow medium (not too orange) and Cadmium Red medium.

Brushes - Short flat (or 'brights') hog bristle brushes sizes 2, 6 and 10 and a synthetic rigger or fine small round brush.

Medium/Solvent - I will be using Zest-it paint dilutant and brush cleaner but feel free to bring along what you would normally use.

Cloths - Rags, paper towel or painting cloths are necessary for clean up.

Easel and palette - I will be using my box easel and palette but feel free to bring what you would normally use, there will be tables available should you wish to use them to stand a table top easel on.

Reference

Photographic and painting references will be available but feel free to bring your own reference if you prefer.
Cancellation

If the workshop is cancelled by us, we will make every effort to contact those booked on the workshop before the event. You will be entitled to a full refund.

If you cancel up to one week before the workshop date, you will receive a full refund. If you cancel within a week of the workshop date 10% of the total will be deducted from the ticket price to cover administrative costs before the refund of the remaining 90% is given.

Health and Safety

This is an oil painting workshop where participants are required to bring along their own materials. We ask that participants use materials manufactured by reputable companies and be aware that materials will differ between participants. A list of materials Graham will be using is given and we cannot be held responsible for any reaction allergic or otherwise to any materials used.

We are not liable for any loss, injury, death or damage to persons or property which at any time may be suffered or sustained by any person who may at any time be in or around the workshop venue.

Participants are required to conduct themselves in a safe and respectful manner at all times.

The participant will be liable for all damages to others and the venue if the injury or damage is due to participant negligence, misuse of equipment, accident, failure to follow instructions, failure to follow safety rules, misconduct or violation of any part of this agreement.
